FAITH-BASED THERAPY

What to expect: Counseling from a faith-based approach is done only when requested by the client. During your first phone screening, you may let us know that you seek faith-based counseling. You will then be assigned to a clinician that practices from a faith-based lens. Your clinician will incorporate faith and spiritual principles to the issues you are seeking help with. Please note that for ethical reasons, your clinician is not allowed to share or impose her personal religious beliefs with you, but will professionally guide you in your unique spiritual journey towards healing, whatever that looks like for you.

For some individuals, faith and spirituality are central to their lives, to their values, to their decision-making, and to their health. For others, there is curiosity about how faith and spirituality can fit into their lives. Wherever you are at in your spiritual and faith journey, faith-based therapy can be the missing link, helping you connect mental and physical wellness, to your overall well being.

Perhaps you have experienced indescribable pain or loss, that led you to question your relationship with God or even to be angry at God. Perhaps your past experience with the church has felt judgmental, hurtful, or even alienating, and you seek healing and restoration of your faith. Perhaps faith and spirituality is a central piece to your life that you do not wish to seek advice on your personal life without it. These and more are all great reasons to seek faith-based therapy.

Some common areas that can be addressed via faith-based counseling include, but are not limited to:

  • Pre-marital therapy

  • Relationship issues

  • Grief and loss

  • Parenting guidance

  • Struggles with low self-esteem and confidence

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Anxiety, depression

Spirituality is widely recognized as one of the many components to one’s wellness, so it makes sense to incorporate spiritual and faith-based principles into therapy. Studies have shown that religion and spirituality may have a positive impact on mental health, such as increased belonging to a community, sense of connection to something bigger than self, adding shared meaning and purpose to one’s life, and resilience to stress through increased peace, purpose, and forgiveness.

Normalize Jesus and mental health -

Let us be saved and sane!

Your faith-based clinicians, Jennifer Polizzi and Myriam Sanchez, will show you that evidence-based therapeutic methods can be combined with spiritual and faith-based principles, for the ideal balance that you are seeking. Your clinician will use a collaborative approach to your sessions, with you as the expert on your life and your spiritual walk, and will help you explore the problematic, painful, or stuck areas of your life through a lens of faith. This may look like: talking about God or your higher power, suggesting Biblical or faith-based books to read, openly conversing about your beliefs, or processing your feelings towards God and faith.

If you desire to incorporate your faith in your journey towards better mental health or towards the healing of your relationships, contact us today for a free telephone consultation.
